:If you have come to this page from a page you previously created that has now been deleted, this is likely to be because you tried to add content to the [[Central Wikicity]] instead of to the relevant wiki. Please see the [[list of Wikicities]] to find the right one and add your content there, or [[start a new Wikicity]] for your content.

There are a few, limited, cases where pages may be '''[[deletion|deleted]] speedily'''. Non-admins can ask for an [[Help:User access levels|admin]] to delete such a page simply by adding a [[Template:Delete|<nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki>]] tag.

Welcome to '''Wikicities''', a collection of communities with websites that ''you'' can edit.
A list of pages to be deleted can be found at [[:Category:Candidates for speedy deletion]].
You can '''[[start a new Wikicity]]''' in [[Languages|any language]] today, or [[Exploring Wikicities|explore]] and [[Help:Editing|edit]] an existing one from the [[list of Wikicities]]. You can also [http://www.wikicities.com/wikistats/Sitemap.htm view the statistics on every wiki], join one of the [http://www.wikicities.com/mailman/listinfo/ mailing lists], or [[:Category:Browse|browse this site]].
__TOC__
Pages you want deleted that may not be speedily deleted should first be discussed at [[Wikicities:Proposed deletions]].
==Creating communities==
When deleting, check the [[Help:Page history|page history]] first to see if you can [[Help:Revert|revert]] to an older version instead of deleting the entire page.
Wikicities offers you free [[#What is a wiki?|wiki]] hosting to build a community-created website.
You can consider turning problematic pages into relevant redirects as an alternative to deletion.
Every Wikicity runs on [[MediaWiki]], the same software used on many wikis, including Wikipedia. Wikicities are hosted for free and will in future be supported by advertising.
Ideally, when an admin deletes a test page or other page with no useful content, it is a good idea to put a note on the author's talk page explaining things, and preserving the deleted content, pointing them to the [[Wikicities:Sandbox|sandbox]] in cases of tests.
Support on both the [[technical support|technical]] and [[community support|social]] aspects of running a wiki community is provided.
==Candidates for speedy deletion==
A Wikicity can be in any language and many languages already have full interface translations available. You can choose to run multiple [[languages]] on one site, or request language sub-domains of one Wikicity.
# No meaningful content or history (''e.g.'' random characters).
# Test pages (''e.g.'', "Can I really create a page here?").
# Pure [[Wikicities:Vandalism|vandalism]] (see also [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Dealing with vandalism|dealing with vandalism]]).
# Very short pages with little or no context (''e.g.'', "He is a funny man that has created Factory and the Hacienda. And, by the way, his wife is great.")
# Reposted content that was already deleted according to policy.
# Pages that have been moved to another Wikicity because they were uploaded in the wrong place.
# Temporarily deleting a page in order to [[Help:Moving pages|move a page]].
#Broken redirects or ones caused by typos during a page move.
#Duplicate images
# Talk pages of already deleted articles
# User talk pages of non-logged in users where the message is no longer relevant (This is to avoid confusing new users who happen to edit with that same IP address.)
#Empty categories#User and talk pages on request of the user, where there is no significant abuse, and no administrative need to retain the page.

All Wikicities come with a free [http://www.wikicities.com/mailman/listinfo/ mailing list].
Please see the [[terms of use]] before [[Special:CreateWiki|requesting a new Wikicity]]. You can also [[Proposed wikis|discuss your proposed wiki]] or [[contact us]] for further information.
==Openly-editable free content wikis==
All of the content of Wikicities will be available under a [[free content]] licence. This means the information can be reused, not only in other Wikicities, but by anyone.
Wikicities are open to the public to edit, although [[administrator]]s can choose to restrict editing of some pages using page [[protection]]. Wikicities are not owned by their [[founders]]. They are run as community projects, and should strive towards consensus as the primary means for organizing their wikis.
==What is a wiki?==
A wiki is a website that allows users to easily create pages and edit pages others have created. The markup is very simple and requires no knowledge of HTML. For example, surrounding a word with <nowiki>[[double square brackets]]</nowiki> will turn that word or group of words into a link. You can make text italicized just by surrounding the text with double <nowiki>''</nowiki>''inverted commas''<nowiki>''</nowiki>.
[[How to edit|Editing]] is very easy to learn, and allows anyone to create a website. Every edit made to Wikicities is stored for as long as the Wikicity exists. This means you can easily check which edits have been made. You can also easily remove bad edits as you can change back to an older version of the page.
==Technical details==
Wikicities operate on a shared-login system. This means you only need to create a username once, and you can edit any Wikicity.
All Wikicities are hosted on dedicated Linux servers using squid cache acceleration for high performance. Hosting includes [[database download|downloadable site backups]], server administration, and site statistics. There is no limit to the size your Wikicity can be!
==Example Wikicities==
;Local soccer league Wikicity : fans write about the teams, and analyze the games together.
;OurTown Wikicities : residents and visitors of a town collect local history information, details of local facilities and popular places to go in the town.
;Collectors clubs : are you an avid collector? Share details of your collection on a wiki, and collaborate with others in providing information about the objects you collect.
;Fan sites : get together with other fans of a television program, band, or anything else and gather information about that, share news of celebrity appearances, and more.
